Designing a compact stairway to the new roof room. Designing a compact stairway to the new roof room. Regulation-compliant. And avoids loss of first floor space...by confining it to the existing stairwell. The room itself can be enabled by @telebeam_ltd Their innovative beam system is SO clever. I saw it at the Homebuilder & Renovating Show...@homebuildingshow THE showcase for our industry's leading thinkers and doers. Thank you to @jacksonhomes_jhc . Image 1 (of 4) is The Basilica Palladiana. A Renai Image 1 (of 4) is The Basilica Palladiana. A Renaissance super-star, Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza, Italy. 16th century. Introducing the first Palladian Window. Consisting of an arched opening between two rectangular ones. Contained in a bay framed by an Ionic column each side. Architect Andrea Palladio wanted flexbility in bay-width to reflect a complex plan. And to contain the overall facade. So you can see he varies the width of the rectangular openings in the end bay. But the arched opening is always the same width (essential of course to maintain consistent levels) so unifying the composition. This device has been reproduced many times. For example Image 2 shows it in Harrogate, late 20th century, in a sadly under-scaled pastiche of the entire basilica. And Images 3 & 4 show the device in Macclesfield, late 18th century.
Stone Henge Visitor Centre. A forest of columns su Stone Henge Visitor Centre. A forest of columns supports the canopy roof. Denton Corker Marshall's architecture seems to have grown naturally on the landscape. It is as delicate and ephemeral as the monument itself is massive and permanent. A choice emphasising and deferring to the ancient observatory's essential spirit.
